My Amal Journey
My experience with the Amal fellowship has been a rollercoaster ride. I’ve seen many ups and downs but enjoyed every moment of it. The way our fellows provide us with a no-judge environment is remarkable. Special thanks to our facilitators who cold-called me whenever I was being a little hesitant to reply and gave me a chance to learn how to respond even when you don’t have an answer.
I am a student, so the sudden shift in my routine after enrolling in this fellowship was indigestible. No weekend plans, No lunch with family, etc. . It was a bit exhausting, in the start, when it started to become a problem for me as I was unable to manage time even on weekdays, I thought to leave it and live as I was living before. I shared this thought with a fellow of mine at Amal. Whatever he said to me was not even for his benefit, but still, he helped me manage my things and told me, “It’s not difficult for you. You can do it”. I find myself so lucky to be surrounded by such positive and encouraging people. I took a day off and gave a second thought to my decision to leave this fellowship, and I managed to decide that I am not giving up this easily. I continued it with much more passion than before, here I am still putting efforts every day into this fellowship.
“You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.” ~ Michelle Obama
I have found myself more vocal now this fellowship has taught me when to deliver, what to deliver and how to deliver. My family and my friends are admiring me for such a change. I am myself very astonished at how much I have developed the skills I haven’t had before. I have made very few friends here, but all of them are very supportive. Whenever I am unable to give my 100%, my friends encourage me to do what I can do best and leave the rest to Allah.
I have seen myself stressed out so easily over small things, so I will be working on that as “What does not kill you makes you stronger”. Also, I want to encourage people around me and make their lives easier as my friends do for me. Show kindness and humility as I have learned from this fellowship.
In the end, I am grateful to Amal Academy for offering such a beneficial fellowship program.
